Learn about the history and power of the printing press as a tool for sharing information, and experience using a printing press while printing a unique message! As a group, choose a word or short phrase of up to three words (this could be a protest poster, a quote, etc.). The teaching artist will work with the group to handset type with their text and each participant will choose a paper color, apply ink and print at least one copy to take home. Materials provided.
In Power of the Press, Minnesota Center for Book Arts travels to libraries and community centers to put the power of print in the hands of the people. Individuals or group leaders choose a word or short phrase inspired by the goals of the group. Then they compose their words with wood type, ink and print their message on a press, and display their posters.
